I have a bookcase in my office with my favorite books of all time. I also have an office closet filled with additional copies of those books plus many more titles for a quick handoff to a friend, colleague, or coaching candidate.
My bookcase houses a mix of fiction, nonfiction, religious texts, and business titles. According to an article by Christine Seifert, The Case for Reading Fiction, recent research in neuroscience suggests that reading literary fiction helps people develop empathy, theory of mind, and critical thinking. Requisite skills for both personal and professional success.
It’s hard to narrow down my top three picks for literature. Here goes (and please don’t hold me to this list a week from now)!
1. East of Eden by John Steinbeck
2. Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier
3. The Chosen by Chaim Potok
Happy reading!
